Forum Charter: Explanations and Rules to Follow

Before posting on this forum, it is important to be aware of the forum's rules.

How to Post a New Question

  1. Select the most appropriate forum for your question (usually the "Excel - VBA" forum).
  2. Click on the "Create a New Thread" button.
  3. Write your request carefully and choose a title that summarizes your request well.
  4. Attach (if possible) a file to increase your chances of getting help by clicking on the File button in the editor. If your file is too large or contains personal data, create a lighter version of your file with just enough information to understand your problem. In any case, NEVER post files with personal or confidential information (this utility can help you remove them).
  5. Post your request and check back on the forum regularly to respond to the answers received.

By posting a question on the forum, you commit to following up on your request, which is really the minimum respect for the members who take the time to help you (otherwise, do not post a question, thank you).

When the Problem is Solved

If you have received the expected response, start by clicking on the button of the posts that have solved your problem and don't forget to thank everyone who helped you.

Other Rules to Follow

  • Do not post any personal and/or confidential information on the forum (particularly in attached files) and remember that you are responsible for everything you post on the forum.
  • A minimum of politeness is required (hello, please, thank you, ...), without it, you are unlikely to get a response, and your thread may be deleted by a moderator.
  • Do not send your question directly to a member in private, post it on the forum. Also, do not send a private message to a member asking them to check your request on the forum.
  • Do not post the same question on another forum to avoid wasting members' time on a problem that may already be solved on the other forum. The reverse is also valid, if you have already asked your question on another forum, do not create a duplicate on this forum (unless you have closed the thread on the other forum).
  • Do not ask for anything illegal or ethically questionable (such as removing a VBA password, extracting data from a site that does not allow it, etc).
  • For better readability, use the button to insert your VBA codes and Excel formulas.
  • Links considered as advertising are prohibited in posts (note that you can link to your site through the "Website" field of your profile if your participation on the forum is sufficient to complete this field).

Respecting these few rules is essential to maintain a spirit of mutual aid on this forum.

Some Recommendations

  • Do not use Internet Explorer to post on the forum and prefer modern browsers such as Chrome, Vivaldi, Opera, or Firefox. This will save you many problems (especially for attaching files).
  • Vote for posts that have been useful to you by clicking on the icon at the bottom right of the concerned post. This helps to highlight the most useful posts in the forum's search results and help even more people.
  • If you can solve another member's problem, do not hesitate to do so, help is not necessarily one-way, and a response is always appreciated.
  • Show tolerance (everyone does not have the same experience using a forum, Excel, etc). Always be kind to others.
  • If you wish, support the forum and enjoy some additional features as a bonus, such as ad-free navigation, "Incognito Mode," and "Dark Mode" (click here for more details).

About Forum Icons

The icons on the forum let you know if you have participated in a topic and whether you have already read it or not.

1 en Topic read
2 en Topic not read
3 en Topic I have participated in + read
4 en Topic I have participated in + not read

Note that a topic is marked as "not read" if there is at least one message that you have not yet read.

Languages and Menus

French and English

The forum is available in French and now also in English.

Some useful information:

  • You can switch between languages using the dropdown menu at the very bottom right of each page
  • You can participate in forums in both languages with the same account and the same login
  • You can display forums in both languages simultaneously by clicking on the "Also show French-speaking forums" link at the bottom of the index page (displayed for members logged in with at least 10 messages)
  • And of course, always post your request in a forum of the appropriate language

Excel and Google Sheets

If you are a Google Sheets user, you can change the menus at the top of the page by clicking on the arrows icon to the right of the site logo (at the very top left of the page).

And if you wish to reverse the operation, simply click on the icon again.
